Condom Storage

There have been many questions out there about how condoms should be stored and what causes condoms to be damaged or compromised. Let us begin by saying that common sense is your best reliance on what can bring damage to your condom. Here the adage applies, "when in doubt, throw it out"!

Condoms should be stored in a moderate temperature in a dry place. Storing them flat, whether verticle or horizontal, is recommended along with some kind of case such as a condom case or condom tin.

The latex in condoms can be broken down by drastic temperature changes as well as outside environmental stresses. Condoms should not be exposed to over 100*F or below 32*F. I would say that they should not be exposed to over 90* or 42*F for extended periods of time. Also, do not expose them to drastic changes consistently ie. if your condom is in your pocket on your sun porch for several days in extreme cold and you bring it in to a warm environment for several weeks. Consistency is the key. Environmental stresses such as going through a washing machine or being in your pocket for several days are not ideal for condoms. You may think that because it is latex that it will be fine, but latex does break down. The less a condom is handled, moved, or changed, the better.

Condoms have an expiration date. Make sure that you use them before the expiration. This is very important for the reason of latex breakdown. Make sure your condom is at its utmost effectiveness and performance.

Never use a condom if the package is damaged, is sticky, brittle, discolored, or has a strong odor. If you follow these guidelines and store your condoms responsibly, they will continue to perform as they should when used properly. Remember, common sense is your greatest guide when it comes to condoms and how they should be stored and handled..

Condom Safety

We are asked a lot of different questions regarding the do's and don'ts of condoms, so we thought it might be a good idea to post these questions and answer them the best we can.

Condoms can be very effective in protecting you from pregnancy, std's, and sti's (sexually transmitted disease and infections), but in order to maximize their protection, they have to be used properly.

One of the most important things to remember is that a condom must be comfortable, and roll all the way down. If you're not covered, you are at an increased risk for transmission of disease and infection. If the condom is too tight, it can break, and if it is too loose, it can slip off.

Every condom Wow Condoms sells has the dimensions posted next to it so you will know whether or not it will fit. We strongly suggest finding the right size, then ordering a sampler pack of as many condoms in that size to find the ones you like best.

Question:
Will condoms work under water?
Answer:
I would be very, very careful trying this, and in fact, I would probably not try it at all. The chance that water will get into the condom is very good, and it will inevitably slide off. If you are going to try it, the condom has to be applied prior to going under water. If the condom is so tight that water isn't getting in, it may be too small, and could break. Also, if the condoms contains a water based lube, it will wash away. A silicone lube would last longer, but make sure it is compatible with the condom. Could a condom be effective under water? Yes. But just be very careful!!

Question:
Is it safe to use expired condoms?
Answer:
NO! They put an expiration date on them for good reason. Most condoms have a shelf life of about 5 years, and condoms with spermicide have a shelf life of about 3 years. Remember, this is your body, and your life. 3-5 years is a long time for a condom to be out there in the world, possibly among sharp objects, stuffed in a drawer, exposed to heat and/or cold, crumpled up, or in a wallet. Condoms should be stored in a cool dry place where they won't be subject to wear and tear, before the tear and wear. Think about it this way too: Why would you put yourself and your partner at risk when condoms are so readily available from free to maybe a dollar each?? Throw out the old condoms and order some new ones! They are inexpensive and they save lives!!

What are the Best Condoms?

This is a very popular question that we are asked at Wow Condoms!

The best answer to 'what is the best condom?' is very simply, the one that fits you the best!

If a condom is said to be 98% effective in preventing pregnancy and in protecting against STD's and STI's, it may be true ONLY if it is used properly!

-If the condom is too small, the chances are greater that it will break.
-If the condom is too big, it will slip off.
-If the condom does not roll all the way down, you are not fully protected, and your partner isn't either.

-HIV is real.
-Herpes is real.
-Unwanted and teen pregnancies are real.

Protect yourself. Educate yourself. Let Wow Condoms help you find the Best Condoms for you and your partner!

Wow Condoms lists the dimensions of every condom they sell so you will know before purchasing if it will fit. We can also help you with other questions you may have about condoms such as; which condoms are safe with lubricants, which condoms are latex free, which condoms are made for pleasure, and so on.

While at Wow Condoms, be sure to check out our Condom Helper videos and questions!

Snug Fitting Condoms - What You Need To Know

When manufacturers talk about snug fitting or smaller condoms, they are generally speaking about the width or circumference of the condom since virtually any length condom will fit as long as the width matches up at the base of the penis. As you can see from some of our size charts listed in previous articles, the difference between the widest and smallest is only about 6/10ths of an inch and the smallest circumference at 4.05 inches. Using a size distribution chart developed by LifeStyles, available on Wikipedia at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Penis_circum.svg, you can see that these condoms will fit more than 95% of the population.

Snugger fitting condoms are not only safer for those who have smaller width penises, but can also provide more pleasure men of all sizes. Consider the uncircumcised penis where the smaller size at the base holds the foreskin in place while the penis moves back and forth. In this case, the One Pleasure Dome condom with a bulb shape at the top of the condom will allow for additional movement and friction.

Regardless of your size, the most important thing to remember is to be safe. WowCondoms can help you find that perfect fitting and most pleasurable condom. If you're not sure which one will work for you, then try a sampler pack. Our new Ultimate Snug Fit Condom Sampler has many types from multiple manufacturers so you can try them all.

How Large are Large Condoms?

Buying a large condom at the convenience or drug store may boost the confidence level for some, but will they provide a better fit? I guess that depends on which brand and what you define as "large."

We measured nearly 100 condoms to find the thinnest, longest, most textured and widest condoms on the market. In this unscientific study, we took a random sampling of some of the most popular condoms on the market and measured them using a micrometer.

The results were a bit surprising with the Durex flavored condoms coming in at the number 2 spot for longest. Maybe the banana flavored condoms were designed for an actual banana.

To start, when it comes to width or girth the standard condoms will stretch to fit just about any size and the large condoms are designed to fit a little less snug which can provide a better experience for some but can also increase the chances of slippage. Here's our top ten list for widest condoms (measured in inches):
Name Length Circumference Thickness Pouch Circumference Texture Thickness
Trojan Magnum XL Condoms 8.25 4.65 0.002 4.93
Trojan Supra Condoms 8.1 4.65 0.0011
LifeStyles Kyng Condoms 8 4.61 0.0024 5.26
Durex PleasureMax Condoms 8.27 4.56 0.0022 4.93 0.0012
LifeStyles Kyng XL Condoms 7.85 4.56 0.0024 5.21
Durex Performax Condoms 8.63 4.53 0.0018 4.7
Durex Extra Sensitive 8.25 4.51 0.002
Durex XXL Condoms 9.37 4.5 0.0017
Trojan Magnum Ecstasy Condoms 8.5 4.5 0.002 5.7 0.0009
Trojan Magnum Fire and Ice Condoms 8.2 4.5 0.0022 4.7

When it comes to length, it is important to find a condom which will roll all the way down to the base of the penis so if you are over 8 inches in length the Durex XXL is the best choice according to our sampling. Here's our top ten picks for longest condoms (measured in inches):
Name Length Circumference Thickness Pouch Circumference Texture Thickness
Durex XXL Condoms 9.37 4.5 0.0017
Durex Performax Condoms 8.63 4.53 0.0018 4.7

What's The Thinnest Condom on The Market?

The Trojan Supra is the thinnest condom we measured at .0011 inches, however it may not be the best feeling condom for you. The Trojan Supra is made with Polyurethane which is great if you have a latex allergy and want both pregnancy and STI protection, but Polyurethane will not stretch as much as a latex condom which can be uncomfortable for some. It's also made about 10% wider which I assume is a result of the reduction in the stretching capability but may not be the best fitting condom for everyone. If it fits and you are looking for an improvement in feeling then this condom could be the perfect fit for you.

Trojan tops the list, but you may want to try out some other brands such as the Kimono Microthin which is made from premium Japanese latex, or the Durex Sensi-Thin or Durex Love condom which is one of our most popular.

If a condom is not providing great sensation and pleasure to both you and your partner, keep trying new condoms. We developed The Ultimate Thin Condom Sampler just for this purpose so you can try out some of the most popular thin condoms from top FDA approved manufacturers. There are lots of different styles to hit everyone's pleasure zone so if it's not working, you've got the wrong condom.

We measured nearly 100 different condoms using a newly calibrated micrometer to see how these thin condoms stacked up against one another and listed below our results or check out our Website Thin Condom section:

"What Is The Best Condom?" The Qestion Should Be: "What is The Best Condom For You And Your Partner?"

We get asked this question all the time "What's the best condom?" and we always have the same response... You should be asking "What is the best condom for me and my partner?" since we are all made up differently both physically and mentally. Ribs, studs, textures and enhancement gels may hit the oh so important sweet spots with one couple and completely fall flat with another. The long and the short of it so to speak is that if you don't like the feeling of condoms, then you just may not have tried enough out to find the one that is best for you and our partner.

We put together below some important questions to help you decide which features are most important to you and your partner to help you through the maze of choices available (and there are a lot these days!) If you either don't have time to read below or just want to try them all out, then we recommend you try our Ultimate Condom Sampler 100 Pack with over 50 different types of condoms including thin, sensitive, lubricated, ribbed, studded, stimulating/enhancing, desensitizing, non-latex and shaped condoms. There's one in there to fit every mood!

Snug, loose fitting or Shaped?
When we are talking about snug or large we are generally speaking about the width of the condom and we need to talk about safety first when we address this feature since we want to be sure it's not so snug that you risk breakage and not too loose where you risk it slipping off. That being said, many men prefer the feeling of a more tightly forming condom while others get pleasure from the movement inside the condom when it's looser fitting. A good example of this is the shaped condom which maintains the safety by tightly fitting at the base, then provides the extra room at the top to increase the friction inside the condom. It's sort of like an artificial skin which can provide a similar feeling to an uncircumcised penis for those of you who are. If you or your partner is of significant size, remember that most condoms will fit almost any girth. If you've ever seen a video on YouTube of someone blowing up a condom on their head you will know what I'm talking about.

Ribbed or Studded?
Ribs and studs can provide a little extra friction, but don't be too intimidated by these since most a just a little thicker than a human hair when compressed down. It's more marketing hype than anything else with names like "Intense Ribbed" or "Rough Rider" it's easy to get a little nervous about how they will feel, but the lubrication which nearly all have will provide a smooth feel with a touch more friction for added sensation. The ribs vs. studs is more of a personal preference and we encourage you to try both.

Stimulation or Desensitizing?
Warming Condoms use lubrication with elements found in every day food such as chilli peppers called capsaicin to mimic the natural heating up during sexual excitement and Desensitizing Condoms typically use benzocaine which can be found in over the counter products as a topical numbing agent. Warming condoms can get you in the mood faster while desensitizing condoms can help you last longer.

Latex or Not?
Some people just don't like the feel of latex while others may have an allergic reaction to it. In the past, there were not many options available especially if you wanted STI protection since Natural Lamb was the primary choice which has a natural membrane that viruses can pass through. New condom technology and manufacturing processes are available to help people with latex allergies which are FDA approved to prevent both STD's and pregnancy. These new condoms are made of polyurethane and polyisoprene for those with a latex allergy.

If you have more questions, try our Condom Helper and keep trying until you find the best condom for you!
